Abstract
Title: An Analysis of Military Operations Other Than War Under the
Context of Geo-Strategic Situation in the 21st Century
Field: Strategy
Name: Brig Gen Badrul Hisham Muhammad. NDC Class 59
Using the framework of delimitation, classification, analysis
and problemation, an analysis of military operations other than war, also
known by the shorter term of MOOTW, was conducted as a pretheoretical exercise. The research then proceeded to define the impact of
MOOTW from three perspectives, that of the state, the armed forces and
academia. In so doing, the research was able to validate the assumption
that MOOTW is itself a flawed concept, and that this subsequently leads
to a second problem of incomplete and or incorrect understanding from
the said sectors.
The findings revealed that while the current security
paradigm of decreasing inter state wars see militaries being increasingly
tasked for MOOTW such as peacekeeping operations and humanitarian
and disaster relief operations, militaries still need to prepare for war.
