i Abstract Title : The Internal Armed Conflicts in Myanmar and Its Effects on National Political, Economic, and Social Developments : An Outlook and Policy Field : Strategy Name : Colonel Moe Min Thein Course NDC Class 62 The aim of writing this dissertation paper is to study and understand “Root cause of the Internal Armed Conflicts and Its Impact to National Political, Economic, and Social Developments” in the time of democratic transition of Myanmar and for the progress of Myanmar National Interest. Myanmar is home to more than 135 different ethnic groups, all of which have unique cultures, history, languages and religions. Sixty percent to two-thirds of the country consists of Bamar. The remaining 30-40% of the country belongs to ethnic minorities; Shan, Karen (also known as Kayen), Chin, Kachin, Karenni (also known as Kayah) the Mon and Rakhine. For decades, ethnic conflicts have been occurring and it obviously affects the economic growth and development of Myanmar. One special thing is that there are 135 ethnicities and many ethnic armed groups some of which are with the strength of Armed Forces of some countries. Recently we are trying to stop internal armed conflicts which lasted for 60 years and build peace as well as putting effort for the change of political and economic sectors. However, a flurry of negotiations among Myanmar’s government, its military and ethnic armed groups belies deeper problems in the country’s moribund peace process.
