Agents and Insurgent Groups in the Southern Provinces in the Period of
Six Years (2004 – 2010 A.D.)

Information operations in southern part of Thailand are the operation among the
government agents and the insurgent groups which still glowed from the past till now.
The insurgent use the trouble and chaos situation to harm people in the area. They robbed
a number of gun and weapon from the 4
th Battalion Development in Cho-airong district,
Narathiwatprovince,on January 4th, 2004 was the beginning of violent situation. The Assignation
and bombing to government agents, monks and people has increasing with more violent. By the
same time, insurgent groups continued using information operations on government side after the
major terror events occured. Currently, the information operation by the opposite site is the main
threat for government to solve the problem in down south. Even, the government side also tried to
use their own information operation but there were obstacles cause of security rules and the
information integrate among the government agents is not yet effective.
The objective of this research is to study pattern of the information operation on
both side, government agents and insurgent groups, in period of six years (2004 – 2010 A.D.).
To compare and analyze for the advantage and disadvantage which may useful to deal with the problem. Because of this study is search from limitation of classification data so it will be the
overview of problem in the down south.
The result of this research shows that the insurgent groups have developed and
prepared the information operation’s plan in systematic process. They also have good network
and use offensive information operation while government agents using defensive information
operation almost all the time. Moreover, the disorganized of the government agents is still the
major problem. Thus, the integration among government agents’s information including a good
cooperation with both of government agents andprivate sectors that join in Information Operation
Center as a committee is the key of successful. By having an obviously chain of command,
objective and good training on the information operation will strengthen the ability for all agents
to run the information operation with highly efficient and effectively.
