Thailand is highly dependent on imported energy. Renewable energy
development policies are expected to help reduce energy import dependency and
diversify the supply of fuel to the country's electricity. Meanwhile, global warming
due to greenhouse gas emissions is a global problem and urged for attention.
Measures to address climate change need to be fully compatible with the
international community even Thailand has not been enforced as such measures at
present. Promoting renewable energy should be tasked to develop as a starting point
to the path to a low carbon society.
There are still issues in development of renewable energy to produce
electricity that need to be considered particularly the impact on the stability of the
power system and the value of investing in energy development. For instance the
need for power plants to accommodate additional production shifts from the power
plant of renewable energy such as wind power and solar energy due to the
uncertainties of nature costs as well. Moreover, the high cost of renewable energy
power plants will be added to the purchase price unavoidable. However, renewable
energy development should be continued for a quality and sustainable society.
